In honor of last week’s post debuting my “new” podcast “With Sam & Marie,” this week, I’m going to be reviewing some of my favorite podcasts! In the last year or so I’ve found myself listening to more and more pods and really getting into a routine of my favorite ones. I tried to include a variety of options down below, but let me know if there’s one you think I should add!
Dear Hank and John
So this is the podcast that actually started me on the trend of podcast listening. It comes from two of my favorite YouTubers, one of which you’ll probably recognize as best-selling author John Green (his brother Hank has also recently written a book, so I guess now they’re both authors). This podcast is full of jokes, interesting facts, and some seriously dubious advice. If you’re just looking for a fun way to pass the time or answers to those shower/laying wide awake in bed thoughts, definitely give it a listen.
The LadyGang
Similar in genre, this comedy podcast follows three of Hollywood’s Z-List celebrities chatting it up about their unglamorous lives in the superstar capital of the world. It’s just three breathtakingly honest and boss-babe women–and occasionally a celebrity guest–hanging out and being honest about their pet peeves, how they got their start, and their fears moving forward in their lives. If you’re in the mood for a strong feminine voice, this podcast is for you!
Serial and S-Town
Now we’re moving from the light-hearted to the mysterious with crime-based podcasts Serial and S-Town. I used to listen to Serial while I was working out and getting ready in the mornings before my afternoon class, but then I had to stop because it had my thoughts so wired in the crime and the case that those were the only things I could focus on all day. When I first discovered this podcast, the second season had just finished. The show now has three seasons, all slightly different, but still focused on crime and investigative journalism as a whole. So if that’s your cup of tea, I’d highly recommend giving this podcast a listen. Like Serial, I haven’t finished all of S-Town but fans of the former will surely be fans of this one as well.
Dear Sam & Marie
Obviously, the best podcast on this list! But in all seriousness, give us a listen on Soundcloud–not for our professionalism, of course, but just for sneak peek into the oh-so-average lives of two college girls.
Now because I’m still fairly new to the podcast game, there are a few podcasts I haven’t quite had the chance to listen to yet. But I’ve included them down below, with a summary, just in case you all are curious to listen along with me!
Criminal
An extremely popular true crime podcast, Criminal runs through a different story every episode. The podcast is supposed to represent the stories of people who have done wrong, been wronged, or have somehow found themselves somewhere in-between. I’ve heard nothing but great things from my crime-loving friends, so I’m excited to give this one a go.
Armchair Expert
In this podcast, actor Dax Shepard talks through “the messiness of human life” with a new guest every week. It’s a conversational podcast about life and that simplicity intrigues me.
Everything is Alive
This is an oddball, but tempting listen. In this podcast, inanimate objects are interviewed about their lives. Yeah, that’s it. I’ve never given much thought to what my pillow or my bar of soap have to say, but maybe I should through this pod.
Are you a podcast fan? Did these suggestions make you want to start listening to some? I’m always open to your opinions, so don’t forget to let me know what you think! And if you’ve listened to any of the podcast on my “to listen to” list, let me know if you’re a fan! In other news, don’t miss out on the official return of a re-structured “DIY Series” next week! See you guys then!
