Poetry Post | just a list of things i’ve been thinking about lately

These last couple of weeks have been hard for me in a way I can’t quite describe. I think it’s a combination of burnout and just recurring tragedies I’ve experienced in the last year—which I’m sure can be said for pretty much anyone right now. So of course, what was I to do but write a poem about it. Here’s a strewn together list of a few things I’ve been thinking a lot about lately.

my pile of dirty laundry

my unwalked dog

my junk food supply

my future?

plans

the hair tie holding up a weeks’ worth of unwashed hair

and how he must just be waiting

for the opportunity to break

the tasks my boss expects me to get done

because that’s my job, to get things done

i guess it’s also my job to pretend like I can

my ex from last year

yeah, i said last year

and yeah, i still think about you

my best friend who i’m ashamed to admit anything to

and yet, somehow

it’s okay to let the internet bleed for you

to let strangers know the things I still pine for

feels like the only way

I know how to feel

I think about

how to be happy again

This is truly what my brain looks like sometimes. It’s honestly a little scary. Here’s hoping you’re all doing okay and finding ways to push through any moments of uncertainty or burnout like this. Don’t forget to leave me a comment letting me know what you think!
